Top 10 Funniest News Fails Caught On Green Screen
Green screens, we use them for everything from live broadcasts to movies. This technology allows for one image to be superimposed over another, and then they're brought together in one seamless shot when it comes to living television. However, green screens can sometimes cause problems. From wearing the wrong clothes to just plain unfortunate timing. These green screen moments left more than a few people with red faces.
1. Should Have Known
When you're working with the weather, it should pretty much be rule #1 to make sure what you wear doesn't clash with the green screen. This means no green or even blue of any shade. Liberty Chan of Los Angeles KTLA discovered this in spectacular fashion one day. As you can see, the pattern on her dress also picked up on the green screen image making for a rather psychedelic display. Fortunately, a co-host nearby lent her a coat so she could finish the weather and save a little embarrassment.
2. It's Gonna Be Hot
If you're looking for warm weather, why not move to Arizona? After all, according to this weather broadcast, you can apparently find a temperature for every need, even if that need is for a blasting furnace. Obviously, an error, someone behind the scenes, dropped the ball on this one and typed in some pretty high numbers. Nonetheless, the weatherman on duty made the best of it and was able to crack some jokes to salvage the situation.
3. Storm On The Rise
Apparently, using a green screen is all about 'location, location, location'. Utah's Dan Pope found this out the awkward way when reporting on a tropical storm while trying to explain the movement of the storm in the Pacific. Pope chose an unfortunate position and added to it with some rather interesting hip and hand motions. It all came together to make the ten-year-old, and all of us break out in laughter. How he was able to do all that with a straight face is beyond us?
4. Slippery Front
The Midwest may get some strange types of weather but this takes the cake. When viewers tuned in to Chicago's WGN 9, they saw a different kind of weather front crossing their states. Apparently, when a mass of cold Canadian Air comes that far south, it can result in some rather interesting results. Then again, this could all be the result of a rather distracted teenage intern running the computer.
5. Low-Tech
Broadcasting the weather Graphics relies on computers, which can sometimes fail. When ABC News 4 suffered such a failure, they improvised in a pretty low-tech way. The station had a crewman, right, the weather on a card, which was then broadcast on the green screen. By the end, the card was a massive scribble and Corrections, which probably left more than a few people at home scratching their heads.
6. New Zealand No-Show
We're guessing someone at One News in New Zealand got in a little trouble for not doing their job. When the time came for the weather, the green screen graphic had not been prepared and simply displayed the various Fields with prompts for editing. The weather person took a couple of seconds to figure out what was going on, creating a rather humorous moment of fail. Hey, at least they got the Cloud and Sun icons up.
7. Her Majesty
Even when you're not in the weather room, the curse of the green screen can follow you. For her 90th birthday, the Queen of England decided to wear a bright green outfit. People immediately went to their computers and turned Elizabeth into a walking green screen. From psychedelic colors to a pepperoni pizza, The queen was soon wearing anything people could think of. But is it a true green screen fail? That Hello. Kitty outfit screams, 'Yes'!
8. Oh, Smurf
When Jeff Baskin took to the air to do the weather for Little Rock Arkansas as Fox 16. we're betting the viewers at home did a double-take at what they were seeing. As Baskin came into view, it was clear the green screen image was malfunctioning. When the world's largest Smurf was now doing the weather. while we're used to clothing fails. When it comes to green screens. Baskins was pretty unique, and some of us wished he continued the entire broadcast looking like that.
9. Shake It Baby
Los Angeles, Telemundo 52s Erica Pino should have known better than to wear a green dress to work. She should have also known the crew running the green screen were a bunch of jokers. while she gave the weather in the form of a floating head and arms crew ran a clip of an overweight man dancing in a speedo behind her. Pinos Image was superimposed over the dancing man making for a rather funny prank.
